Description
100 x 100cm acrylic on canvas
I have discounted this canvas as there is a tiny tear which has been repaired and although not visible on inspection you may notice it – this very much speaks to the essence of the artwork – it needs to hang on a wall!
This piece captures the moment a woman, polished on the outside and unraveling on the inside, slips beneath the surface of her own thoughts. The red dress, bold and composed and socially “ready,” contrasts sharply with her inner world, where the weight of expectations, responsibilities, and unwanted company pulls her downward.
I painted her from a place of raw honesty. She is sinking not because she is weak, but because she is exhausted by roles she never chose and conversations she can no longer pretend to enjoy. The water becomes her refuge, quiet and honest and unfiltered, far gentler than the noise of the world pressing in on her.
There is a point where she chooses silence over performance, solitude over forced belonging. This artwork speaks to that threshold, the moment when the soul whispers, “I cannot hold everyone anymore,” and everything finally falls away into truth.
